Progression run today. I was thinking about commitment today. JPD was trying to figure out how to schedule his time early on. As mentioned before, having twenty kids riding bikes behind him on his runs was maybe a little distracting. I am sure Mom wasn’t exactly pleased with the idea of JPD working a twelve hour day and lacing up his running shoes before dinner. Something had to give and JPD decided to start running in the morning. For forty-plus years JPD woke up before the dawn and met the running buddies in the morning. Some might even consider these meetings were held in the middle of the night. Long runs began as early as 03:45 am. There was a commitment to family, running and job. I think everyone who has ever met JPD would consider him a success at all three. Running shook the cobwebs enough to perform well at work which in turn provided for the family. The example he set by succeeding at all three is present in the personality every child, grandchild and great-grandchild he touched.
The picture today is an afternoon storm forming in the foothills. Favorite song today: I Got a Woman, performed by Ray Charles
