Progression run today. I was thinking about running buddies today. In the early seventies, JPD started running. Nobody really knows why but having ten children ranging in age from toddler to teenager might have had something to do with his motivation. Forrest Gump just ran and he did not have a very good reason either. It did not take long until some of the other fathers in the neighborhood saw this man in a Zen-like trance logging the miles in front of their houses. The men emerged from their crowded homes and joined together like Tibetan monks at a prayer wheel. In these early days, I speculate that not much was said but all understood what they were doing. Common goals were being forged at his time, the women in the houses may have been grateful for the early morning solitude. JPD has many running buddies but none as stalwart as Thomas McGough and Dick Saccone. I learned quickly that promises to meet for a run at 0500 were ignored if you were not there and ready. These three men are my heroes. I run with my music, I wish I had buddies like these to share my endorphin-induced happiness.
The picture is the beginning and end of the run. Favorite song today: Buona Sera, performed by Louis Prima
