Speed workout today. I was thinking about hobbies today.
JPD is a renaissance man. His interests are diversified. The early sixties for JPD were about growth. JPD had a growing family. He was on a constant search for larger housing. He was growing his career. JPD started law school at night after work while his fifth child was born (Me). He studied hard and graduated in the spring of 1964. Mom was pregnant with the seventh child at that point. Graduating from law school was a big deal, passing the bar exam was an even bigger deal. For some reason, one of his best buddies was in town in October of 1964. It happened to be my mother’s birthday. That was the day that they announced the result of the bar exam. With John and Joan Moag in Chicago, my mother two weeks away from delivery of Katie, they all learned that JPD had passed the bar. John Moag and JPD did not pass any other bars that night, they went into all of them. Pandemonium ensued, what a celebration! A couple weeks later, Mom and Dad (and Katie, Mom was about to pop!) took a train to Springfield, Illinois and JPD was sworn in as a card-carrying member of the legal profession. Mom gave birth to Katie Dolan Dix a couple days later and the celebrations continued. This lesson is not lost on any of us; always keep learning. There is always something new to learn, there will always be something going on but it will be worth it. They might even give you a degree for your efforts.
Another hill to climb. Favorite song today: La Donna e Mobile from Verdi’s “Rigoletto” performed by Luciano Pavarotti.
